How do I set up Outlook 2002 so that when there is no dial-
up connection it does NOT try to dial up but is able to
send immediately when I am dialled-up? I have "Send
immediately when connected" checked, which is OK when I am
connected, but when I am NOT connected, Outlook tries to
dial up when I hit "Send". I don't want it to do this, I
want to "Send Later" when not connected.

Thanks

State the connection type you selected for your mail account and what type
of account it is.

Then why do you have the Send immediately when connected checked? Uncheck
it. If you check it, Outlook will dial up to send your message.
That setting refers to your status with Exchange Server, not your Internet
connection status. Outlook is not aware of your Internet connection status.

Thanks. That function of "send immediately etc" is NOT
obvious!

It always helps to realize that Outlook is designed first and foremost as
the client for Exchange Server. It was not designed or optimized as a client
for dial up Internet Mail. So many of its menus and dialogs don't make much
sense in the dial up world.
Outlook has no way of knowing that you are not connected to your Internet
connection unless you tell it in File > Work Offline.
So if you want to send immediately when you _are_ dialed up but not when you
are not dialed up, you can leave the Send Immediately option checked and
just tell Outlook to Work Offline when you are not dialed up.
