When I try to send an attachment (Adobe pdf) in this
case, larger than 100 kb, Outlook 2002 converts the file
to a zip file and adds the zip extension, i.e. *.pdf.zip

This is not acceptable on an Exchange server with McAfee
software as it will block the attachment with the double
extension.

Is there a way to turn this automatic conversion off?

Do you have Quick View Plus installed? If yes, it is that program that is
creating the automatic zip file. Turn it off from QVP.
