Outlook 2000's "Synchronize Folders" setting/Checkbox

Can anyone explain to me what checking or unchecking
the "Synchronize Folders" option actually does? I cannot
seem to find the answer in Help or online at Microsoft's
websites. I have queried the knowledge base and more, but
cannot find adequate information. Thanks in advance.

It's for working in an offline mode when Exchange is your mail delivery
location.

In many cases all of your Outlook folders (Inbox, Tasks,
Calendar, etc.) are held on a network, specifically an MS
Exchange Server. If the server our your network connection
goes down you lose access to the lot.

If you choose to Synchronize Folders, Outlook essentially
creates a mirror copy of all the folders and content held
on your MS Exchange Server on to your hard drive. If you
loose the network connection or server you will retain
access to everything Outlook holds up until the point the
network connection or server failed.
