Outlook 2000 using WindowsME

When I try to open Outlook, the program comes up but when I try to place my
curser on the page, it does not appear. The cursor anly show up on the
Windows toolbar at the bottom. When I click Alt/Control/Delete it tells me
that Outlook is not responding. I have to cancel out of the program. I have
tried rebooting several times; I have defraged; I have done a diskscan, I
have run AdAware; I have run AVG AntiVirus; I have Noton Antivirus runing in
the background and there does not appear to be any negatives. I have tried to
fix Outlook by using the Office 2000 disk 1 but when I try to run setup the
page comes up but when I click the Fix button, there is no response as
indicated by clicking Alt/Control/Delete. I am in a quandry. Can you help?

I also am having similar problems with Outlook Express.

Thanks,

Dunker

Close Outlook. Find and rename outcmd.dat to .old. (If using Windows 2000
or XP, you will need to enable searching hidden and system folders.)

Once you have done so, reopen Outlook and it should open fine. You will
need to rebuild any custom toolbars or customizations as the file outcmd.dat
controls how the toolbars display. When it becomes corrupted, it will cause
Outlook to hang because it cannot create the toolbars that you expect.

Hi Milly:
I followed your instructions but there was no change in the results. I found
the file under C:\Outlook. I also rebooted my computer, but still no change.

Hi Milly:

I think I have resolved the problem. I was running Norton AntiVirus as well
as AVG AntiVirus version 7. Apparently AVG "stamps" incoming mail and causes
the mail to hang up in some way. After disconnecting AVG on incoming e-mails,
I find MS Outlook and Outlook Express are working fine.

Thanks for your suggestions which unfortunately did not work.
