Hi, i've got 2 users that won't connect to the Exchange mailboxes using
Outlook 2000. It seems machine specific as i can configure the accounts on
other machines but not on a few machines running windows xp pro. (the other
machines are xp pro also) I either get "Exchange server cannot be found" or
whan i click "check names", it finds the server and user mailbox, but then
immediatly asks for a username/password/domain. I enter the details that i
know are correct but it fails authentication. I have checked authentication
and profile settings and they seem the same. The strange thing is, that
occassionally, it will work ok for about half an hour then again ask for a a
password and fail authentication even though i know the users details are
correct. The server OS is Windows 2000. Any ideas please?

Checked the cable and physical route to the server as well?
Reinstall TCP/IP and try again.

Hi, i think the cable and tcp/ip is ok as i can map drives for directories on
the same server that exchange is on. I can even type in the IP of the server
in the check names section of exchange and DNS resolves the server name. It
then just asks for the account password again. Would this mean the TCP/IP is
ok?

Assumed that the PC is in the same domain, the cableing is corret and that
you have logged on as the user who owns the mailbox you'll expect it to work
correctly already. Reinstalling TCP/IP is just a simple troubleshooting step
that is needed to find where things got corrupted. Also connecting to a
share is not the same as connecting to an Exchange mailbox.
