I'm experiencing a strange problem with a number of computers at work
when receiving mail in Outlook 2000. When Outlook starts up everything
is fine for a while, but it seems that if Outlook is left open for a
period of time that the individual mail accounts will stop receiving
mail with the following error.

Unable to connect to the server. (Account: '(e-mail address removed)', POP3
Server: 'mail.domain.com', Error Number: 0x800ccc0e).

Once this error occurs the only way to fix it is to shutdown Outlook and
start it up again. I think I can say for sure that this is a problem
with Outlook and not the mail server. Anyone have any idea what's happening?

I would change the "server timeouts" options in Outlook
to 2 minutes instead of one, see if that makes a
difference...
Could be a DNS server issue, PC taking for ever to find
the server, thus DNS not working properly...

I don't think that the timeout or the DNS is the issue simply because
closing down Outlook and then opening it again fixes the problem. Its
sort of the same type of scenario as rebooting windows, closing it down
and starting it up again seems to fix a lot of weird problems. Its also
a very inconsistent problem. Its never happening to multiple users at
the same time. It seems to happen randomly for no apparent reason.

I've been having the same problem recently, but closing
down Outlook and then opening it again does NOT work. I
get a "server cannot be found" message with the error
number Ox800cccOd and a "tcp/ip connection was
unexpectedly terminated by the server" message with the
error number Ox800cccOf. Does anyone have any other
suggestions as to how I might fix this problem?

I'm trying to think of anything else I can say about this that might
help solve the problem. The only thing I've been able to come up with is
that it seems the size of the pst file is not a factor because I've got
machines with 900mb pst files and machines that have 300mb pst files and
both have this problem occasionally.
