I have Outlook 2000. It will not remember the password. I have to reenter the password each time it goes out to check for mail. I have checked the "Remember Password" box. What can I do to fix this problem. My PC is running XP Home.

Thanks.

There have been several recent issues with passwords not being retained with
Outlook. If you're running Outlook 2002, the SP1 solves many of these, so
start there. If not, here are some other solutions:

For Outlook 2000 or 2002 on Win 98, NT, or 2000:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q290684

For Outlook 2000 on Windows 2000:
(CW) http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q275465
(IMO) http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q259416

For all Outlook versions on Windows XP (note, this article is written for OE
but the solution applies to Outlook as well. Just ignore the parts that
refer to OE):

Rick, thanks for your reply. I had gotten the same info from Diane Poremsky several months ago and I was reluctant to make changes to the registry. Although I am pretty computer literate, I just haven't gotten into registry editing. I then misplaced the info she had referred me to. I guess I have to bite the bullet and give the editing a try.

Thanks again.

Diane, thank you for your reply. Actually, you sent this info to me several months ago. I was reluctant to make changes to the registry. Russ, I was unable to locate the registry file the fix-it document references, >hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\protected storage system provider<. When I click Run, regedt32, I get four folders and a zillion sub-folders. I did a search of my entire C: drive and still did not find the file. I searched 3 times.

Any suggestions

Thanks

I forgot to mention another issue. I downloaded the backup utility for OL 2k from MS. I "restored" my addresses to OL when I installed it into my new PC. The address folders are there, but they do not appear when I'm creating a new email and click on the To: button. To insert an address, I have to go to the appropriate folder, locate the person, copy the address and paste into the email message...a real pain if I'm sending an email to several people.

If I click on a folder then Properties, the name of the folder is visible adjacent to the Rolodex icon, but it is grayed out in the box under Name of the Address Book. The box to check to Show this folder as an email Address Book is also grayed out. How can I make my Address Book folders and contents visible

Thanks
