Today all of a sudden I'm facing the lovely problem of Outlook 2000 not
wanting to run. I can get it to launch, but after a few seconds it basically
freezes up. I can hear the hard drive churning, like it's trying to do
something, but nothing happens. When I check Task Manager it tells me
Outlooks is Not Responding. I've tried running the program in Safe mode and
the same problem occurs.

I've been attempting to wade through Microsoft's documentation and help on
this matter but the suggested fix/patch I found sounds intimidating,
involving a download, registry changes, file renaming, etc. I want to be sure
I haven't missed some sort of simple solution or missed some kind of check I
need to do.

Wendy

P.S. I just had fun installing around 30 Windows patches/upgrades since in
order to effectively install any Outlook fix I need to be up to date. I also
thought it might fix the problem with Outlook but alas no.

Can I be your best friend? :)

I woke up this morning (after staying up 'til 4 a.m. trying to fix this!)
expecting I'd have to spend a few hours more attemtping (possibly not
successfully) to fix this problem. Thanks to the checklist of tips, you gave
me, it only took me 1/2 hour!

BTW, the repair that work was the one to run in Safe mode and execute the
repair command. Seems to have done the trick!

One question I have is on suggestion 2, where you rename outcmd.dat. I
don't seem to have this file on my system. I tried searching on the whole
file name and just outcmd and received zero results.

Again, thank you so much!

Wendy

You're welcome! :-)

The outcmd.dat file is a hidden file so make sure you've set your folder
options to show hidden files and folders
