We started updating all of our XP machines to XP SP2 and all the remaining
Critical Post SP2 updates. After doing this Outlook 2000 is now acting as
though it is pausing connections and therefore not refreshing the folders
properly. To load any new mail you have to click on any of the other folders
in Oulook and this will load any new messages into the Inbox. The outgoing
email is also hanging in the Outbox until you click on another folder on
some systems and on all upgraded system has a very visable pause in the
outbox of about 10-15 seconds. This was not a problem until the XP SP2
upgrade.

We are using Exchange 2000 w/SP3 on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server. We had
everyone to perform the steps below but the problem is still there on most
systems. I can not see any other changes that can see that would affect the
connection and refresh rate and I am not finding very much on TechNet or the
MS Knowledge Base. Any ideas?

On the Outlook Inbox Screen
1. Click once on Tools.
2. Click once on Services.
3. Double Click Microsoft Exchange Server.
4. On the "General" tab:
a. Click "Manually control connection state" to select.
b. Uncheck "Choose the connection type".
c. Click on "Connect with the network".
d. Click on "Apply".
5. On the "Dial-Up Networking" tab:
a. Click on "Do not dial, use existing connection".
d. Click on "Apply".
6. On the "Remote Mail" tab:
a. Uncheck "Disconnect after connection is finished".
b: Click "OK".
7. Click on OK on the Services window.
8. Close Outlook to insure that changes have been made.
9. Open Outlook

Check the Windows Firewall settings.

Can anyone please direct me where can I find article from Microsoft's web
site saying that Outlook 2000 is legal to be used if you own a valid
exchange 5.5
CAL license?

You will need to call your local Microsoft Licensing office to get specifics
due to Exchange 5.5's age. Outside of that, I can tell you that a
stand-alone version of Outlook 2000 was located on the Exchange 5.5 Service
Pack 3 CD.
