rob, my wife and i share a single windows xp login but we each habe
multiple e-mail addresses and separate pst files. is that what you
mean to do?

To use profiles, you must use Outlook 2000 in Corporate or Workgroup mode.
Check Help->About-.>second line should tell you. If you are using CW mode,
then control panel->mail icon->show profiles will let you create different
profiles. To use the different profiles, you will need to shut down Outlook
and reopen using the selected profile.

sure. you can do this one of two ways. i'll assume you don't want to
login to windows individually.

option 1: you can create new e-mail accounts in
TOOLS:ACCOUNTS:MAIL:ADD. the wizard will walk you thru the steps. if
all of your e-mail is coming into your INBOX and you want the mail
from all of the accounts to go there well, you're done. all of your
mail and the other person's mail will filter into the INBOX.

option 1a: since you probably want to keep your mail separate, you
can just create two or more folders under the INBOX folder. the new
folders can be something as simple as HIS MAIL and HER MAIL. lets
assume you want to keep it simple. to create a new sub-folder
right-click on the INBOX, select NEW FOLDER and give it a name. repeat
as many times as needed to create as many sub-folders as needed.

once the folders have been created, select TOOLS:RULES WIZARD. you
want to create one rule for each new account that will sort incoming
mail from each account into a separate inbox sub-folder.

when the RULES WIZARD starts click NEW, then:

CHECK MESSAGES WHEN THEY ARRIVE:NEXT

* check the box next to: WHEN RECEIVED THROUGH THE SPECIFIED ACCOUNT.
in the rule description box click the underlined word 'specified'.
select the account name for HIS ACCOUNT (or whatever you've called
it). click NEXT

*check the box next to MOVE IT TO THE SPECIFIED FOLDER. in the rule
description area click the underlined word 'specified'. select the
apprpriate folder you created for HIS MAIL.

*scroll down the list of rules and check the box next to STOP
PROCESSING MORE RULES. click NEXT twice.

* give the rule a name and click FINISH

repeat this to create rules for the other accounts. as you play with
the rules wizard more you'll quickly get the hang of it. when you're
done creating the rules your ibound mail from your e-mail accounts
will be sorted into their respective folders.

all of the mail will be stored in your current .pst file

Option 2: this option entails creating a new .pst file which will
contain all of the mail, etc. for the new user's account. this is how
we have our mail set up here at home. my mail is in one pst and the
wife's is in a separate pst. why? 'cause i believe in murphy.

creating a new pst is simple.

* click NEW:PERSONAL FOLDERS FILE (PST)

* navigate to the folder where you want this file to reside. you
should store it in the same folder as your existing pst file. not
sure where that is? do a windows explorer file search for *.pst.

*give the new pst file a descriptive file name. click CREATE

*enter the display name you want for the pst file. click OK. i
wouldn't advise setting a password for this file.

* when you click OK you'll see a new folder appear on the OL folder
tree with the descriptive name you entered. follow the steps above to
create a set of folders and rules to sort mail for the second account
into those folders.

that's pretty much it. it can seem a bit daunting but its actually
fairly easy. post any questions here. good luck
