I've upgraded from XP, using outlook 2000 for email (yes, old), to Vista
operating system.

Windows Mail will not 'recognise' the dbx files I point it at to import.

Is Outlook 2000 too old ? - I just wont see these files.

The DBX files are from Outlook Express, not Outlook. They must not be Read
Only and they must include the proper Folders.dbx for WinMail to import from
them. See

Thank you - imported. And after all that - those dbx files are dated in May
2007. My recent backup is an exported backup.pst file.

Do you know how I can convert/open this file to get these recent emails into
Windows Mail?

Which file? If you mean a PST file, then Outlook must be installed and
using that PST file as it's default.

dFrank,

Another question - I have a new computer running Windows Mail in Vista. I
want to transfer my old OE W2000 folders (I have transfered the contacts OK).
I saved the old folders as .dbx files and copied them over to the new
computer. When I go to files/import/messages/MS outlook 6 and enter the
directory location where I saved the dbx files I get "no items match your
search". Ideas ?

Frank,

Worked great.
The NOTE in para.5 was the secret - VISTA did double "OE Mail/OE Mail" in my
case.
Tanks,
