Hi,

I'd appreciate any help with this problem.

I am running XP and have been using Outlook 2000 as my mail client for quite
some time. It has suddeny developed a problem where it starts up and lets
me see the inbox but immediately crahses - giving one of those annoying
"Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience." messages .

I have tried doing a repair, using the original CD and I have also tried
completely uninstalling and reinstalling the whole Office 2000 suite but
neither have resolved this.

Out of curiosity I created a new User Account and when I run outlook under
that account it works fine......weird.

Any suggestions???

Regards,

Andy

Locate outcmd.dat and rename it to outcmd.old. This will reset your Toolbar.
If this doesn't work you'll need to recreate your mail profile

I, too, had the exact same problem. I took your advice (after pulling my hair out for 4 hours!!!), and renamed the outcmd.dat file. POOF! Problem gone

Thanks for your help. Any idea as to what could have happened? Did the outcmd.dat file just become corrupted

Thanks again

When I open Outlook everything is OK until I go to the calendar...immediate
CTD. I have searched for outcmd.dat but it does not seem to exist.

I was going to run the scanpst Inbox Repair Tool and wanted to make a copy
of the file first. When I try to copy it says "A portion of the file is
locked by another program." I have rebooted, looked at the pst file's
properties, etc. I can not figure out how the file got locked or how to
unlock only part of the file.

Help:)
Kurt
