Outlook 2000 - can't send/receive

I've got a new laptop to which I've copied my Outlook data
from my old machine. However, although it worked fine for
2 days for some reason I now can't send or receive. The
error message says "A TCP/IP error occurred when trying to
connect to the server... Error Number:0x800ccc15". The
problem arose, I think, after a pop-up kept appearing about
something trying to access Outlook, prompting me to press
"disable", thinking that this would prevent what I assumed
to be a virus trying to access my address book.

I've done the following to no avail:
- checked my firewall settings and they're OK
- scanned for viruses (nil) and adware (a few but deleted
with no effect)
- exported data to Outlook Express, which sends/receives OK
- uninstalled and re-installed Outlook twice to no effect

Does anyone have any suggestions?

A ten second Google search for 0x800ccc15 turned up this:

This behavior occurs when you connect to your Internet mail server
using a SOCKS proxy server, even though you can successfully connect to the
Internet using a SOCKS proxy server

The error you get (0x800ccc15) means SOCKET_CONNECT_ERROR - Unable
to open Windows Socket, and might appear when you connect to your Internet
mail server using a SOCKS proxy server, even though you can successfully
connect to the Internet using a SOCKS proxy server.

This is a known problem to Microsoft and is fixed in Outlook 2003
(which I suppose you don't have it installed)

One thing you can do is to uninstall Outlook (I know you've done it
before), change all the files which contan "mapixxx.xxx" to
"mapixxx_old.xxx" and reinstall Outlook and see what happens.

Hope it helps,
Adrian
