Hi

I am using Outlook 2000 on Win XP Home. Until now I have only used
POP/SMTP but am looking to use IMAP. I can add the account into Outlook
without a problem, however as soon as Outlook tries to connect it freezes.

I connect to the same IMAP account without a problem in Outlook Express
and via the servers' webmail, or via POP/SMTP in Outlook 2000. Is this
a known problem or can anyone shed any light??

The mail server in use is MDaemon Pro 6.8.5.

Thanks in advance

Paul Marshall.

hmmmmmmmmmm... are you running the IMAP server on an
internal network? if so that is the problem

there seeems to be a software feature built into outlook
(but not into any other client including outlook express)
that requires some kind of delay between the requests and
responses being sent to and from outlook.

On a lan, there are just too fast for poor old outlook
and it just crashes... or hangs... or informs u that your
server is unavailable.. when infact the server is fine...
but the software has broken..

this problem has caused me so much of a problem... I have
downgraded the entire office to outlook express.... so ms
has lost loads of liecences that I would have bought if
this "added feature" was not in outlook...

if anyone has a work around... please let me know

A couple years back I saw some 1Mb NICs that were "Recommended by
Microsoft", perhaps it was their Outlook development team that
recommended them. Either that, or get some cheap hubs that will provide
enough collisions for Outlook to work.

I have found Outlook's (and Exchange's) implemenation of the IMAP protocols
to be somewhat lacking. It's obvious to me the Outlook crew never speaks
with the Outlook Express crew because the latter IMAP implementation always
works while the former gets lost, hangs, loses connection to the server, and
other phenomena.
