Outlook 12 not keeping email selected on sort

When using Outlook 12 and selecting an email, I click sort by email from and
it sorts the emails. However it does not keep the email selected. I then have
to search for the email. This was a feature in Outlook 2003.

Isn't Outlook 12 still in BETA?
