my postings don't show online so I'm copying it. Outlook (browser is
Firefox) erases my shortcuts after almost every boot. What to do? Thanks

Hi - you might want to consider using a newsreader like Outlook Express or
Forte Agent rather than the web interface to the newsgroups - this problem
will likely go away, and it's also a lot easier to do nearly everything
there, including searching, which is always a good idea to do before you
post, as well as tracking replies to your own messages and flagging threads
to be 'watched'. The Microsoft public news server is msnews.microsoft.com
and you can subscribe to as many groups as you like.

Since you mention a browser, I'm not sure what Firefox has to do with
Outlook. Can you post back with a lot more information?

Thanks for the tip on newsgroups - I have Windows XP and Outlook 03, have never had a shortcut problem before. Every time I freboot, Outlook erases all the shortcuts I created during my last use. The only ones which remain are the preloaded sites "Office Online" and "Microsoft Online." I can't find any comments on this site or CNET which address this problem!

OK...I still don't know what shortcuts you're talking about. Shortcuts in
*Outlook* ? Shortcuts where?

The Outlook "shortcuts" toolbar at left (vertical bar) has a category called "shortcuts" along with categories of mail, calendar, contacts, tasts, and notes. You are able to add new groups or new shortcuts, meaning websites, to the list of 2 they have preloaded (outlook today and microsoft office). However, my Outlook program, or its associated security, or some error, causes Outlook to dump all these stored websites except for its own 2 every time I shut down. Does this clarify? Thx.

in Outlook, in the navigation pane running down the left hand side of the window, there is a category (like "calendar" or "mail") called "shortcuts." They are bookmarks that you name within Outlook for use the next time you want to return to a website. I keep creating groups, like "travel," by clicking on the command in the navigation pane under "shortcuts," then dragging a webpage over to bookmark it under that group heading (like the page for expedia). The next time I boot up, all the groups and bookmarks i created are gone. The only ones remaining are the two that MS has preloaded - "MS Office Online" and another one.
Thanks for hanging in on this one, I'm quite out of ideas...

OK - got it.
If you create a group called "Test" that has a shortcut to an actual OL
folder, does it stick?
Are you on a standalone computer, or on a company network?
Are you running SP1 for Office 2003?
Have you checked your event logs?

Be careful in your replies as your newsreader (CDO interface) is not
including quotes/new text properly. Please try my suggestion that you use a
real news client.

Will try msnews...thanks. If I create a Test group, it does not stick. I am on a home network using linksys...SP 1 for OL 2003...I don't know what event logs are. Thanks!

If you're on WinNt/2k/XP, you have event logging - go to start | run, type
eventvwr <enter>

Do try another method of access - even your last reply didn't show up
properly. Your reply shows up at the same "level" of quoted text as did the
message you were replying to.
