outgoing messages

how do i know if i have the right port number? i cant get my messages to
send, but can receive just fine. the message i receive goes as follows:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account:
'mail.silverlinephoto.com', Server: 'smtp.telus.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port:
25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

any help would be great. thanks

Does your connection to that server cross over from one internet provider's
equipment to another's before it reaches the server? If so, such
connections
to port 25 are likely to be blocked in order to cause problems for spammers.

See if this leads you to any instructions on how to use some other port
instead:

Just trying all the ports is a very slow way to find out which ports work,
since there are about 65,000 ports available and it's unlikely that more
than a few of them will accept outgoing mail.
