Is there any setting in Win xp that would allow you to receive email but not
send? All the account settings are correct and we can receive email but get a
smtp error when attempting to send. Can send from the comcast.net site and
comcast says it's the same server that you would use with Outlook and they
are unable to solve the problem and say it must be an XP problem.
HELP!

Yes, both Gila and I contacted comcast and both were told the problem had to
be with Outlook EXpress. Tried several email programs none work. Two pc's in
the house are having the same problem. Not likely that's it's Outlooks
problem. Somehow I think the problem lies with Comcast but since we're able
to use their online comcast.net email they say it's the same server and must
be Outlooks problem. Both these pc's worked with outlook until last week.

So, did you follow the instructions and contact Comcast?

The web page link on the SPA in one of the other responses also showed
the sending (SMTP) and the receiving (POP3) serer names to be different.

In the error messages above, you have the SMTP trying to send thru the
POP3 server.

The linked page said POP3 = mail.comcast.net and SMTP = smtp.comcast.net

That's definately copuld be one reason why you are having problems.
