We need the complete error message, copy and paste it in your reply.

Tell us who your ISP is, or what is after the @ in your email address.

Are you at home or mobile when you get the error?

Hey mac,
I'm having the same problem. My ISP is comcast.net. here's the error
msg:The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'Read:
Vail', Account: 'mail.comcast.net (1)', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol:
SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.1.0 Authentication required', Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

Thanks in advance. Hope you can set me straight. Gina

Hi Gina,

Comcast no longer uses port 25, they now use port 587.
Tools>accounts>your account>properties>advanced tab.

See the link for all the account settings:

That is the complete error msg. I am not at home. Actually I'm on wi-fi
using Linksys. I'm been able to send/rec emails at this location in the past
w/out any problems.
