Out of office message

When I go on vacation or will be away form my computer for
a long period of time is there a way I can send a message
out automatically to all received e-mails saying something
like I am out of the office and will return on such and
such a date? Or be able to type whatever message I like.

Unless you're connected to an Exchange server - or your system security is
of Fort Knox standard - then I really don't recommend it. Do you really want
every spammer in existence to know they have a valid address (talking of
valid addresses, you're likely to be on every spammer's list now, as you
have broadcast your address to the universe).

Setting up a reply, without the intervention of a server, is totally
indescriminate and will validate your address to people to whom you probably
don't wish to be receiving mail.
