I'm using Office 2000 and I need to set up a Auto Out Of Office Reply. I
looked in the Rules Wizard & didn't see an option to Auto reply with a
message. How do I create a Auto Out Of Office reply? Thanks

The Out of Office Assistant feature in Microsoft Outlook is a Microsoft Exchange
Server service. If you're not using this service, see this article for a
workaround:

How to emulate the Out of Office Assistant in Microsoft Outlook
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;311107

Keep in mind:
1) You must have your system up and running 24/7
2) You must configure Outlook to check mail automatically.
3) Spammers love this feature...

This was a timely topic for me as I too am haveing issues with this. I tried
to follow the instructions that you provided, but when I get to the Save As
part, I don't have an option to save as an Outlook Template. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

That worked great. Thank you!

Thanks. Yes - I figured that one out and tested the auto reply and it works
great!

Another question for you - you indicated that the computer must remain on
24/7 for this to work, for obvious reasons. If my computer is not accessed
for long periods, it will go into "sleep" mode. I assume that will not allow
the auto reply to function? Can I avoid this situation?

Thanks.

I'm not absolutely sure how your system will behave. You should run a test to
see if it comes out of the sleep mode when Outlook queries the server for mail.
If it doesn't, then you'll have to disable the sleep mode when using the
auto-reply feature.

Just be aware that by using this method to notify people that you are out of
the office, you have also confirmed to spammers that your address is "hot."
Make sure you use a good anti-spam program - SpamBayes is a good one to try
upon your return.
