I tried, several months ago, to send an email with a
6mb .pdf attachment. The file was too big for my email
account, but now the email is firmly lodged in my Outbox
and I cannot delete it for love or money. HELP!!!

I'm not an expert, but if it were me trying to solve it
on my own, I'd try opening the email, deleting the
attachment, changing the To field to myself, and sending
it. (And 6 MB is far larger than what email is intended
for.)

I tried that. Anytime I try to do anything, Outlook
tells me that the MAPI Spooler has already begun to
transmit the message.

What didn't work? There are at least 10 different things to try in that
article.
Just create a new profile with no transports. Open your PST in that profile.
Delete the message from the Outbox.

I tried the things in that article a few months ago
(roughly in November). I have created new files and
deleted old ones on the advice of Microsoft MVP's. The
bottom line is that my Outlook works. The message stays
in the Outbox...not hurting anyone and only slowing down
start up a wee bit. Upon exiting Outlook, I have to
click a "Yes" when I'm prompted to do so(to end Outlook
even though there's still a message in the Outbox). It
just bugs me that it's there. If I cannot delete it in
any way, I can live with that. I just wanted a few new
suggestions

Did you try the profile with no transports?
If that fails, it would be a first.
