I will have 2 xp pro machines networked (P2P) and I will have Outlook on
both, but I want to set it up in such a way that from either machine (#1 or
#2) I see & read the same Inbox, Sent folders that are on one of the
machines (e.g. #1). This way, I will not download and reply to messages
on/from #2, when they've already been replied to by the person on #1.

I know you can set Outlook to leave downloaded messages on the server, which
facilitates being able to download and read them from either machine. But
can Sent messages be reflected on both machines. Or perhaps only have the
Inbox, Sent folders exist on one machine, and always read off that - can I
achieve the above scenario?

Set up OL, on both sys to use the same pst.
NB you can only run a single instance of OL at any time

personal message store- it's where outlook stores the messages.

after a quick look at the links - would you agree that these may be the best
way for Outlook inbox and sent folder to be shared by a second machine in a
very small p2p - http://www.outlookstore.com/ or
http://shareoutlook.4team.biz/ or http://www.workgroupshare.com/
I want to keep it as absolutely simple as possible - can you recommend one
over another ?

They're all good programs - each with plusses and minuses. I'd pick one that
has a 30 day trial and see how it works - if you like it, buy it or try a
different one.
