Is USB support still as problematic under Vista as it is under XP?

Or is it too early to tell?

What problems are you having in XP? I do not seem that have any.

Too early, and you should really be asking in a Vista newsgroup since that's
where most the folks running Vista will be. Note, though, in the Vista
newsgroups I haven't many of the posts where USB was working one day and the
next it didn't, but still it's too early to know for sure.

Using Vista here & I use flash media, hard disks & MP3 players via USB all
day long with no problems whatsoever.

Per smlunatick:

Many and varied.

Bottom line is that drives come and go. I can mount drive "X" today, but
tomorrow it won't mount. Next day, it might mount if I flip the power on and
off a couple of times and detach/reattach the cable.

Gets frustrating when rotating several drives for incremental backups. Time to
do a backup and go to dinner... and the Furshlugginer thing won't mount.

From what I've read so far, the probability of problems increases with the
number of USB ports on a PC. I've got a dozen in the back and six in the
front. Two of the ones in front are off the MB and the rest are split between
two cards.

Also have a few FireWire ports - and, although they seem more reliable than USB,
they're no prize either.

You've probably got an issue with IRQ Sharing. If you check the PC's
IRQ mapping what IRQ numbers are your two add-in cards using ?
Also are the add-in cards using similar chipsets ?

Have you tried a "powered" USB hub?
Sounds like you are exceeding the power output for USB.
