I downloaded the VistaUpgradeAdvisor.msi to see if my PC supported
Vista. What a load of crap. You need winXP to run this program.
Those with Win2K need not apply. So you go and buy an expensive copy
of XP just to find out if your PC supports Vista.. Billy boy must be
short of money again..

the site says

a.. A modern processor (at least 800MHz1).
a.. 512 MB of system memory.
a.. A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable

but I have seen that you need a faster cpu and more ram to run it somewhat
well....

To run Vista in "minimal" mode, those are thre requirements. If you
want all the neat-o effects, you need at least 1 gig RAM and a mid to
high end video card, Nvidia preferred, IIRC.

if you dont have a super duper graphic card it reverts to a theme called
aero express,
that is like an xp visual style with black & grey.
