OT: total trivia... how to edit two filenames at the same time

This is in Windows XP, probably any version of Windows.

.... in Windows Explorer (File Manager)

.... in a folder with less than one window worth of files, set the
folder view to List

.... select the top filename

.... press Control+End... the top file should remain highlighted while
the bottom file should become outlined

.... press F2, change the filename (keep the same extension), and
press Enter

.... using Undo (Control+z) twice, restores both filenames on my
system

OK, so now I see you can rename multiple files just by holding shift
and left clicking to select more than one file. I did not know that
(not likely it will ever be used here either).

Is that true for Windows 9x? Just curious.
