BUT...I've never been able to get winders to decode anything!!

http://www.yenc32.com/oeusers.php

This encoded stuff is preferable for binaries because it allows the
files to be smaller, however, winders won't digest it. I'm still trying
to find something (other than Agent Freeware version newsreader)
to deal with this. I stumbled across the above and will check it out.
OS = XP SP1 ... ditched SP2 and keep being bugged about
updating to SP2! for it's 'security'..... MS and security are....well,
you know....

Thanks for dragging this group further into the abyss.

Xnews, Gravity, Dialog, Binary News Reaper, &c. You are using one of
the few Windows clients which can't decode it.

You could download an old version of Yproxy (last Freeware version is 1.2)
it is aviable at http://www.norman.riel.com/downloads.htm

Won't decode files you already have...

Nope, unless you can still download them from the server:
(Can be done by unsubscribing, close outlook express, open outlook express
and subscribe again. Just be sure the right dbx file is deleted

just my 2 cents,

All the files have to be downloded into a folder. Then decoded. I can't get all the
files from
abf .. it finishes the first 8 then HANGS up the computer! After 3 attempts I quit!
Something
with file 9? I dunno. I work full time and don't have the time to
up-down-over-under-re-de
this-that-yadayadayada... it either works or it doesn't. I can live without it. No
biggie.

Might I suggest Power Grab (supports yEnc) for downloading:

http://www.cosmicwolf.com

It's quick, It's easy, and It works.

Is there some way that this can become an icon in OE? I dl'd another decoder
for this...but, how does one get the post from where it is into a folder to decode?
Do you have to make a folder, put all the parts into it ... ok, I understand that,
and I understand that ALL those parts have to go through the decoder/encoder/recoder/
blah, blah, blah.... BUT how does one get the folder full of jibberish into the
decoding machine? TIA.

if you've gotten something like the yenc32 from yenc32.com then just install
the program. in oe do a standard combine and decode as normal, except when
you save the file, save it as a TXT file. you know how to select text from
the dropdown menu on the filesave window?

once you've saved it as a text file, navigate to it either through windows
explorer or from the start->run->browse options. right-click and you should
see a couple options for yenc...one to encode and one to decode should pop
out at you. you want to decode the file. the yenc window will pop up and
show you it's progress. don't blink, you'll miss it working. check your
folder and you should see the decoded file added to your folder.
