[OT]New version or Update informer

I do appreciate the job that some people do on this newsgroup posting the
new versions of various pieces of software.
What i was wondering was if anyone knew of a online "New Version Informer"
which is basically a database of the current versions of various pieces of
software, and when a new version is put in, those who have subscribed to
hear about new versions of that program get informed by email of the new
version. Anyone know of something like that?

If you're like me - a paranoid semi-geek who loves to keep his software
up-to-date, you absolutely must go to the Calendar Of Updates

http://www.dozleng.com/updates/index.php?act=calendar

Although there isn't any provision for them to send you the updates
that have been received or are scheduled to be released on that day,
you can do the following:

1. Visit the CoU website
2. Use their RSS feed
http://www.dozleng.com/updates/index.php?s=8edd75bdd04ecf0582d889e2915bf197&pg=rss
3. Use a page monitoring service like http://www.watchthatpage.com to
monitor the calendar and send you updates.


An alternative though in no way as comprehensive as CoU might be
BigFix. A freeware version is available here -

Now that I've had a chance to play with it, I HIGHLY recommend this for
people who want an easy, central place to check for updates to their
favorite apps. I'm modifying the list to suit my needs now and it's
great!!!!
