Hey
Do you use laptop od desktop in your everydays work ? Which you consider a
better choice ? I am asking here not on a hardware group because I consider
this choice as a programmer and want other programmers to tell me if they
like working on a laptop or not ?

I have both. However, my laptop is plugged in to a nice flat screen
Sony 19' monitor with bright screen technology and I have a wireless
keyboard and mouse.

I probably won't buy a desktop again because I need the mobility
of a laptop for travelling.

For work, I have a laptop and a desktop. My primary dev environment is the
desktop with the laptop acting as a secondary dev environment as well as a
research sandbox and a demo machine. If I had to lose one, I'd be just fine
with the other.

I used to use my personal laptop for both work and home (at my previous
job). I now have just a desktop at work. It's definitely faster, due to
having faster disks and more memory - the disks being the important bit
which couldn't easily be fixed on my laptop without lowering battery
times. I can work perfectly well on the laptop, however, and it gives a
lot more flexibility.

If you want to be able to work at home, or take notes in soft form in
meetings, etc, a laptop is a great choice. If you don't mind being tied
to your desk, a desktop is likely to be faster in terms of disks,
cheaper to buy, and cheaper to upgrade.

It also probably depends on your job too. If you're exclusively office based
(i.e. Pale bearded developer that noone wants the customer to see) then a
desktop is the clear winner. If you're office based but visit customers,
then a desktop and either a pool laptop or your own laptop depending on how
much you're out and about. If you're like me and you're out and about at
different sites consulting, then just a laptop should do.

Hi,

I use a desktop ( Alienware machine ) at home, I also have a laptop but
only to do presentations and fast compilation/changes when at a client site.

I really prefer a desktop for work ( and gaming of course :) ) it's easier
to customize and expand. beside they are lot cheaper !!!

cheers,
