Help! I asked in the Windows group but so far no reply.

My 'O' key is stuck and every program I open, the page gets overwritten
with 'O's. It makes it impossible to work. It took me a full 15 minutes
to write this because the damn 'O' key kept taking over!

I cleaned the keyboard thoroughly and no dice.

It's a laptop BTW. And Windows 98.

Any suggestions?

Thanx

O! O! Sounds like trouble. Did you take the "O" key off as part of your
cleaning procedure? Usually you can pry it off. You may see something which
is causing the problem. If that doesn't work, you probably need a new
keyboard. They're not hard to replace yourself if you're handy.

You can get a split adapter which plugs into the (ps2) mouse port. Regular
computer keyboard goes to one lead, the mouse goes to the other.

Turn it upside down and shake it.

Hit it with a hammer.

Vacuum clean it.

Bring it into the shower and shampoo it with Head & Shoulders.

Dip it in a bucklet of gasoline. Let it sit overnight.

Rinse thoroughly. Repeat.

Not so much a suggestion as a comment. I learned to type many years ago on
an Imperial typewriter which came without a zero -- it was necessary to use
a cap O for zero (and lowercase ell for one). I still find myself doing it
occasionally. Perhaps you could use zero for O and type your text in
capitals. Just joking.

Thanks for the advice. My keyboard has been pretty grubby for a long time so
after looking at this and considering which was more fun, revision for
finals or dismantling my keyboard and putting it in the dishwasher, i went
for the latter.

My one actually involved popping out each of the keys, which i stuck in the
cutlery holder.

With a run on the quick wash setting, my keyboard was looking beautifully
clean. There was an exciting 10 minutes after i had replaced all the keys to
find that the M key was missing. Fortuantely my brother found it in the
kitchen, so all was well.

I now have a lovely clean keyboard - Thanks!

But does that pesky "O" key work properly now?

I'm a different person i'm afraid! My O key always worked, but my keyboard
looked terribly dirty.
So not only do all the keys work, but it is nice and clean as well!

Cheers,
Ben

O! Something interesting happened soon after I posted this. My "K" key
started to act up. I pried it off and found what looked like a bit of finger
nail under it. Removed it and "K" was OK. Amazing what can end up under
there.
