I'm curious...for those of you who switched from Individual.net, which
freebie news server did you eventually go with, and do you like it?

Thanks.

I switched to TeraNews (technically not "free" because there's a one-time
fee of $3.95), but it's down just enough that I'm really aggravated with it.
I signed up with Individual.net this morning.

At home I use my ISP (Cox) which is lightning fast compared to the free
servers I have found. At work I use aioe mostly and sometimes
x-privat. Sunsite is very fast but read only.

Hi Jason,
I am using both sunsite and readfreenews and have read/write access on both
of them. I believe neither of them support binary messages.

You can get write access by registering at one or both of the following
links. http://news.sunsite.dk
http://cust.readfreenews.net/login.php
No credit card info or fees. They basically ask for a valid Email address
that they can use to mail your password to you.

Of the two I think I like the groups and retention offered at readfreenews
but both of them work fine for me.

If you _didn't_ switch (I didn't and the 10e hasn't bankrupted me), you've
got nearly a year to go before your next payment is due, so perhaps the
enquiry is a bit previous!

Still, I always admire the skinflint tendency! ;o)

Using at least one appendage, the entity known in this space-time continuum

news.x-privat.org

Leedle slow, but not enough to be ungrateful

Thanks guys. I'm going to try x-privat first since it got several
mentions. But if that doesn't work out, I'll try the other recs in this
thread. :)

I have an account with RFN, but it tells me posting is not allowed.
How did you manage to write to it?

I noticed that you use Xananews as a newsreader thus you go to "Account
properties" >> "Server settings" and there check the "Always
authenticate".

If this message gets through then your suggestion has worked. Thank
you.

I'm using ReadFreeNews with Agent and I've yet to see one of my posts
make it to a newsgroup. I set my authentication option to "Login with
a username and password" so I'll see if this post makes it or not.

It made it OK.
