Hi

The Hard Disk Led is working all the time on both a win98se and a
winXP-sp2 machine even when I'm not working on them.

On the XP machine the 'system idle process' indicates more than 90 CPU,
this could be the culprit. On the win98 machine I have no clue as to
what makes it happen.

I have used two Av's and two spyware cleaners on them and found nothing.

Any help to stop this is appreciated greatly.

Thanks

Leo

'system idle process'
means its not doing anything....

check the cables that lead from the mobo to the leds and take a look
at the mobo's manual to see the correct connections.

its not a software problem, its probably a cable...
you did not tell us if this happened all of a sudden or was like this
for a long time

Hi Leo,

How much memory do these systems have? Do you have a lot of background
tasks running? Is the HDD-led blinking more frequent under XP than it
was under W98? What I am aiming at is that you might be running out of
conventional memory, and the systems might be constantly swapping to the
HDD, thus causing the HDD-led to go on/off regularly...

A way to double check this is to download a free software LED indicator
like this from lonewolf

Hard Disk Indicator

http://www.lonewolf.gr/software/

the leds activity will not be exactly same as the real one, but you will
see if its sitting there off, and yet the real led is on all the time
something
fishy is happening.

Could the HDD be recalibrating itself?
