I had a problem with my operating system so I used the cd that my laptop
came with to reload the operating system, which worked but for some
reason the screen only took up about 1/2 of the actual screen and
around it was all black, and I would try to move my mouse into the
black and it wouldn't...kind of like the screen just ended there. I'm
really not sure I'm describing this well, but I'm hoping that someone
understands what I'm talking about. Well, after this I decided to try
another disc that came with a different computer in order to reload the
operating system with that disc, but the same exact thing happened. If
anyone can help me with this that would be great.

You probably failed to install chipset and other drivers, eg video specific
to your mobo / PC
PS If you install an o/s that is allready running on another sys, and use
the key for that, then you are in breach of the licence

NOT TO WORRY! Laptop display monitors typically only work (or only work
well) at ONE specific resolution.

Open up display properties (right-click your wallpaper and go to
properties), and go to the last tab (Settings).

Drag the slider for screen resolution all the way to the right, then click
Apply. If your screen disappears - don't freak out and don't touch anything!
It'll come back in about 20 seconds, and you can try another setting.
Typically dragging all the way to the right gets you to the nativ resolution
for your laptop (the resoulution it was designed for).

Let me know if you have any trouble, but I'm confident that'll fix it for you.
