Hi
When you purchase a new Dell desktop, under their options in the
configurator, if you select the option for backup disk for xp, xp pro, or
media center for !0.00, is that the original windows cd and license as if you
were buying the pc from a custom private pc builder? It says the back up is
from someone else, don't have the name presently.

I assume this says i have created a backup, but for the 10.00 you pay, you
are not getting the original license and cd?

When you buy a dell, whether or not you choose to get the installation media
on CD does not determine if you have a license - just determines how you get
the media. If you don't get the CD - you can "make" one using the method
Carey gave - and it will work with the OEM key they give you. If you do get
the CD, it will work with the OEM key they give you.

Either way - with Dell - you have purchased an OEM copy of the operating
system and it is installed on the system for you - making it (in strict
accordance with the EULA anyway) permanently attached to the machine - no
matter what.

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to figure out/do here - but I
personally would get the CD - although I did not know they charged more to
get it now - that is new.

Thanks

I am not trying to do "anything", when i purchase my next pc, soon, asap, i
want the license and cd, as the last one i bought only had the restore cd. I
don't have the link that takes you to the configurator on www.dell.com , at
the moment , but if you ask for a backup cd when configuring a system with
their limited options, they give you an option of a "backup cd" for the 3,
xp home,xp pro, media center, it's $10.00, but no where does it say the
license included as you get it from a custom bulder. I hope this explains
what i am looking for if i bought from Dell.
thanks
