Which of these optional updates are useful? I tried the IE7 and it didn't
work with Yahoo at all. Is it OK now, and what about all of this other stuff?

are you having problems with yahoo email not being able to log in du to
cookies reject

sorry it is taking me so long to figure this thing out, first time. Anyway,
my mail is working ok right now. I am concerned with problems with
maintaining my wireless connection. And, I am new so I just want to get
things to work right. And, I don't understand what all of these optional
updates are about. They give you these files to download and they don't tell
you what they are or anything. Do you download all of the updates. Funny
terminology download updates?

All what other stuff? Sorry but your post is unclear.

For IE7 issues, ask in the Internet Explorer newsgroup. There are quite a
few posts there so peruse them for something on topic before posting a new
message.

there are 11 optional software updates and 1 hardware update available for windows xp. This does not include the security updates that are automatically installed. Would you install all of this stuff?

I took IE7 out to get Yahoo to work right. I am new, and struggling with this
forum structure, sorry.

Ok, so you mean updates offered by windows update, correct? Again you need
to be specific. We can't see your computer screen and/or read your mind.

Firstly don't update hardware drivers through windows update, unless the
hardware device is manufactured by microsoft. Otherwise disregard them on
Windows Update. Hardware device drivers should only be obtained from the
device manufacturer's website if it's a retail device. If it came
preinstalled on an OEM computer from a major OEM such as Dell or HP go to
the OEM's web site for the latest driver. If it's an onboard device go to
the motherboard manufacturer's web site. Lastly don't update hardware
drivers just for the sake of it. Only update hardware drivers if there is a
problem ,and you think a driver update will help, or if the new driver has
some must have feature.

As to whether you should apply the other optional updates it's up to you. I
don't install everyone. I read the info about it and decide. If you have a
question about a specific update, ask it here.
