Hi All,

In the old days, Windows 3.1, 95 ... (I don't remember how far back),
Windows Explorer or its predecessor used to display at the bottom of
its window a count of the number of folder/file names displayed in that
window. I can't find a option to get that functionality in
WinXP-Pro/SP2. Is there any way to restore it, or is it lost in the
sands of time?

Thanks in Advance,
Richard

Hi Richard,

If you are in Explorer and click on View, make sure Status Bar is checked.

Then, if you are in a directory showing all the files in that directory, the
count of the files will be shown in the Status Bar on the bottom.

Hi Alan,

I've wanted to take care of this "problem" for years. Finally, this
evening, I took a few minutes to post a question. Your simple,
straight-forward answer appeared minutes later.
Thank you very much.

Best wishes,
Richard

P.S. If you've got time for one more question, how did you get your
nospam.pew to be posted by Google Groups?

I used to define my email address as (e-mail address removed) when I was
using OE as my client. Since I switched to Google Groups web
approach, I thought I had to give them a real email address so that
Google could send me a validation request. Consequently,
I created the a real but generally unused email address.

Is there a Google option that will let one change to a dummy return
address without verification?

Again, thanks in advance for any guidance you may offer.

Hi again Richard,

I just noticed that you had asked another question about my munged
"nospam.pew" email address.

I'm not using Google Groups to read and reply to this newsgroup. I'm still
using OE as my client, so of course I'm doing it the exact same way that you
used to, when you were using OE.

I honestly have no idea how someone would -- or if it's possible to -- do it
using Google Groups. (See, you asked a question that I COULDN'T answer.
lol)

Hi Alan,

Thanks for giving consideration to my "bonus" question :-)

After I posted the question, it occurred to my that you might not be
using a newsreader to access the newsgroup, which is probably hosted
by Microsoft in this case, rather than using the Web interface that
Google offers. You confirmed that for me.
See, you asked a question that I COULDN'T answer.

Even Archimedes couldn't answer every question (correctly, that is).
For instance, he thought things like apples fell to earth because they
were part of earth and desired to reunite with it.

Even Newton couldn't explain the source of his "Universal Gravition",
which Einstein dismissed as fiction since we couldn't dectect "gravity
waves". He identified the curvature of space as the cause of the apple
falling.

Even Einstein couldn't explain the phenomena that Quantum Mechanics
dealt with. He refused to consider Bohr's QM because E believed "God
didn't play dice with the Universe".

And soon Bohr and Einstein will overshadowed by Super String Theory, or
so it seems.

So, if you couldn't answer my question, you're in exhalted company!!
And of course, that was never my intention to begin with :-) But I
enjoyed responding to your jest.

Again, thanks for your insights.

Best wishes,
Richard
