optical mouse stays on after computer shuts down

I've got an Intellimouse 3.0 which I'm using with a PS/2 adapter. All is well, but when the computer shuts down, the mouse stays on - its red light is always lit.

Anyone have any suggestions - it's not really a problem, just a concern.

Just a note. I'm on my 2nd optical mouse and both have had red lights that stay on. Both mine also were PS/2 adaptered.
I think it's part of the show.

Turn off the power point switch and remove the plug from the socket.

This has the added advantage of giving you some protection from power
surges and lightning strikes.
