Athlon 2GHz 512 MB DDR, XP Prof. Have installed the Intellipoint 5.0
software as Admin and installed the (both USB and USB -> PS2 adaptor) mouse.
Two issues:

1. Horizontal scroll does not work. It is enabled, but no sign of
horizontal scroll, even in settings "Speed Test".

2. Often comes up with polite XP "having a problem... must shut down
Intellipoint ...". Problem seems to be related to point.dll.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled software - still the same.

Ideas?

TIA

Ditch the MS crap and buy a Logitech. No more problems - MS cannot design a
mouse - much less write a proper driver for it!

Often "brand new" can mean 6 or 12 minths by the time the product gets to
the retail store.

So yes, it is worth checking for new drivers for any new hardware at the
time you install it, because the dirvers included are probably out of date.

Facon - the artificial bacon bits you get in Pizza Hut for sprinkling

Actually my MS intellimouse optical works fine - it's the Logitech one I
dumped!

Logitec ??
Not in my case!

My Logitec Optical mouse drives me crazy. It behaves as if the SnapTo
function is selected (Start,Settings, ControlPanel, Mouse,
PointerOptions, SnapTo checkbox) but it is not checked.

I verified that the Registry has the proper key

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse]
"SnapToDefaultButton"="0"

It is still jumping, regardless of the driver used (original Microsoft
or Logitec's (mw9791enu.exe).

My computer runs WinXP SP2 with all the current patches, the mouse is
USB and I also tried it as PS2 using the adapter that came with it).

Did anyone see such behavior? Does anyone know how to stop the SnapTo?

TIA

Unistall the software for that mouse, then uninstall the driver from the Device Manager. you then will need to use CTR+ALT+DEL to get the option to shutdown/restart. Reboot, let windows find the device again. reinstall the software if you want, or have Device manager simply update the driver from the corresponding Win2k/XP driver folder on the disk.
