I just wanted feedback from anyone
that had used this program. I tried it
out on one site I maintain tonight and
it rather quickly downloaded everything
on the site (including all the Yahoo Geocities
folders)

Is it against the law to download just any
website? Or can I use this thing with reckless
abandon to download all the mp3 files and
wav files I want from selected sites?
(Not payed sites.)

I tried to install WEBREAPER but even
after I added a missing .dll file to my
systems registery I still couldn't get it
to work.

Any feedback on HTTrack Web Copier
appreciated. Any tips would be a bonus.

I have used HTTrack v.3.05 for some time without problems (and downloaded
MP3 files without problems), but I recently tried v.3.40-2 and found it
impossible to use. The main problem was that it downloaded lots of
extraneous pages (see my post in the "[Update] HTTrack Version 3.40-2
(04/09/2006)" thread), despite importing my options from the earlier
version.

Based on my experience, I would recommend using the earlier version; also,
when you have got the options to suit yourself, save them as an .opt file,
or save several .opt files to suit different requirements.

Thanks for the tip. But once again,
does anyone know if it is AGAINST
the LAW to download websites for
any purpose???

Technology being what it is, it is obviously possible for almost
anyone to copy..(download) 'almost' anything....but it is also
obviously illegal to USE many things for your own purposes without
permission. It's when personal or copywrited stuff appears somewhere
else that folks get (rightfully) upset.

Music is usually identified as 'free' or not....so you just need to
take a sane & reasonable approach to it all.

No. In fact, there's zero technical difference between the program
downloading the
web site, and you just clicking on every link found there and viewing it
manually.

I appreciate that feedback. I don't intend
to DO anything with the websites except
study the CSS design on them, the width
and other design stuff. But I might occasionally
use it to download media, like sites that have
Videos on em. But based on what I have heard
hear I don't think I am breaking any laws by just
using the HTTrack Web Copier software.

Thanks to all who responded,

What about version 3.3, the one included in the Pricelessware 2006 CD?

3.4.2 is on the HTTrack Website and it works fine
for my purposes. Downloads ALL files.
