Also, there is the opera.general newsgroup.

I think Firefox has now got REAL competition.
I was converted to from F'fox to Opera some while ago and once you have set
it up to your own personal view it does everything I want from F'fox and
some.
Moreover it doesn't depend on extensions and nightly flim-flam.

Great.

It doesn't do everything I want though. And unlike firefox you can't really
change that. But still it's a very worthy browser. I use both.

Maybe they have enough customers paying for support, so they can afford
to give the software away for free. It will give them even more paying
customers, big companies which pay for support.

I hope, and believe, that Opera will go open source, license GPL/GNU
for example.

Remember to submit Opera to PL2006, somebody who knows how to do it
properly.

We also have to ask Opera if they allow non-commercial distribution of
Opera, on CD.

I think they have a slightly different appeal. For years I used Opera
under Linux (when I was still using IE and even for a time when I used
Mozilla Suite and then Firefox). However the last time I updated my
Linux install I decided not to bother with Opera (and it never made it
onto my Windows boot). Why, Opera is fast, has had tabbed browsing for
years and reasonable compatibility with sites. However the Linux version
went from being a focused browser to a suite with two items I never use
as I have always preferred other mail and news readers whilst Firefox is
a straight forward browser and I like the idea of extensions which allow
me to customise it to my particular needs.

Opera is good and this move will provide competition but I think they
attract a slightly different type of user. All in all though very good news.

There is no need to use the Opera mail client nor its news reader
which don't take up much space anyway, I use opera just as a browser
although in past times for curiosity I have tried the mail client from
time to time, just to see what it was like.

Hi, perhaps you can help me. All I wish is the ability to open a new tab
with it (the new tab) grabbing the focus instead of being in the
background, as I can do in FF by middle clicking. Any help to achieve this
seemingly simple task would be much appreciated.

Middle clicking works for me.
However I cannot remember whether it came as default, or whether I set it
in Tools/Preferences.

I found it in 'mouse gestures'.After enabling mouse gestures, right click
the link and drag it down slightly. I must confess in my earlier searches
I ignored mouse gestures as they were an unknown quantity to me.
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my question.

Everyone knows that debugging is twice as hard as writing a program in
the first place. So if you're as clever as you can be when you write
it, how will you ever debug it? (Brian Kernighan)

I can't remeber it either. Anyway it's available in
Tools/Preferences/Advanced.

Middle button click:

Tools->Prefs->Advanced Tab->Shortcuts->Middle Click Options->Open in
new page

Or maybe they just like all that money Google is paying them...

Actually, Opera Software secures a significant part of it's revenues in
the embedded browser space where they supply browsers for phones and other
non-pc devices.
