Didn't take long did it!

"SchilliX is an OpenSolaris-based live CD and distribution that is
intended to help people discover OpenSolaris. When installed on a hard
drive, it also allows developers to develop and compile code in a pure
OpenSolaris environment."
John has been developing "Schillix" for quite a while, he was part of
the original group of NDA'ed people and companies that Sun used to test
and refine Open Solaris. He's had about 18 months head start on the
rest of us. (How do I know? I hang out in the Solaris newsfroups.)

Cheers,

Thanks for the extra info. Even allowing for the "head start" it's an
impressive achievement. I've got Solaris 10 running on one machine but
haven't played with it much. Looking forward to trying OpenSolaris.

Thanks
Gordon

what version of solaris is opensolaris based on?
Solaris 10 (the current version, which is free, BTW) - with bits from
Solaris Express, i.e. leaning towards what will eventually be Solaris 11
- *minus* some bits that hey have not yet been able to disencumber.

99.999999999999999999999999% of people wouldn't see any difference
between an S10 machine and an OpenS machine.

And John's been a Solaris/SunOS hacker since he was a wee babe - it's
not just the head start of 18 months, it's the mumble years of it as well!

Ok so how do you try this? The download is an ISO file inside a BZ2
file. I am guessing a BZ2 file is like a zip or rar file, but how do
you open it? Has anyone tryed the live CD yet?

Thanks in advance

Bzip2 is an unix compression tool(s) that achieves a higher level of
compression than plain old pkware's zip. I believe 7zip handles it on
Windows. said:
