opens downloads with Media Player

My computer recently wants to open up downloaded files,
such as pdf forms found on the ccra website and other
documents sent in e-mails or found on websites with
Windows Media Player. (sometimes Quick Time Player) There
is no option to "open with" when I right click either.
These types of files should open up with Adobe Acrobat or
Microsoft Word. Can anyone help me fix this problem?
