opening .pst files

I am using Outlook 2000.
I have archived some emails and zipped them. I now want to open them back up. After unzipping the .pst file, the first time I dragged it over to outlook, and it opened fine. I tried to do it again, but it didn't work. I closed out of Outlook, and tried again, nothing. I then tried file->open->.pst and file->import/export. Neither of these working. I even went back to the zip file and changed the attributes. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

"It didn't work" doesn't really tell us anything :-) What happened when
you tried to open the .PST the second time? Are you sure it's not still
open in your Folder List from the first time you opened it? You would have
had to close it out of Outlook for it to disappear (and you didn't say
that's what you did)...

Hmm...I've never heard of being able to open a .PST in Outlook by dragging
it from somewhere else. Can you find the file on your hard drive? Does it
still have a .PST extension?

Yes, it should. Are you sure you're looking in the right place for the file
when you use File | Open | Personal Folders File? It's not still in the ZIP
file, right? And you've made sure it's not marked read only?

If you've done all of the above and Outlook still won't recognize the file,
see if you can use the Inbox Repair Tool on it. Search for a program on
your hard drive called scanpst.exe and run it. Allow the program to make a
backup of the file before it repairs anything.

It could be that dragging the file to Outlook has corrupted it -- I'm still
not sure how you managed to get it to open that way at all :-)
