opening programs

can you please tell me how to open up files that require
excel and i have microsoft word spredsheet it will not
alow me to open up the file

If all you want to do is view (not update), then ms offers a free viewer:
http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/xlviewer.aspx

But OpenOffice offers a spreadsheet program that might be compatible enough for
you:
(http://www.openoffice.org, a 65 meg download or a CD).
