Is it possible to open multiple files from windows explorer without relaunching the same program. eg if I wanted to open a number of excel files, can I have them all open in the same window rather than in separate windows?

Hi

It depends on the version of Excel that you are using. Older versions of Excel used to open in a single window and you had to use the window menu item to navigate between the documents that were open.

In Excel 2003 the default settings is that each document opens in a new window and appears as a seperate icon on the taskbar. You can use the option of "Group Similar Icons" to avoid cluttering of the taskbar

Excel file1 file2

Select multiple files and right click - Open

You aren't launching in a new process (unless you've screwed up the registry) but the same process. MS admitted MDI windows were a mistake and went SDI (sometimes I have 40 open web pages - imagine if all of thoise were in one window). Also Excel is already a windows unfriendly application so making it more incompatable is stupid..
