Opening the biggest NTFS HDD partition (55GB) in Explorer takes ~30 sec each time. After it is read, files and folders are opened quickly. Opening new Explorer window does the same thing when opening this partition. How can I resolve the problem? Thanks.

Hi,

Run clean up, clear all temp files and any unnecessary files.
Run anti-spyware softwares to clear any spywares.
Run anti-virus software to ensure the OS is clean (ensure the virus
definition is up to date)
Run CHKDSK /F/R
Get all critical updates from windows update site (CARE: read the
requirement for SP2 before installing it, you may select not to install SP2
if you found that the existing hardwares and softwares of the OS are not
suitable for updating to SP2 )
At last, run defragment of the Hdd.

Hi,

Is that only happened after you have installed SP2?
If so, go to add or remove program to remove SP2.

Yes but there was a defective RAM and Windows said once that it made some "maintenance" on the HDD right after restart while using the defective RAM. Then the RAM was replaced and the disk scanned and checked for errors. SP2 can not be removed as it is a full installation.

No, it is SATA and the problem is only with one of the few partitions, the biggest one.

The reason I asked this is I had the same problem with a SCSI drive.
Replacing the cable fixed the problem. Maybe your current cable is bad
or is not getting a good connection.

I am also using a HDD mobile rack. Did you have exactly the same problem as I described it in my first message (only first opening of the partition in an Explorer window takes time and then files and folders are opened fast)?
