Opening folders

I have many folders on my desktop. Most contain digital
pix,but not all. I used to be able to open a folder by
double clicking with the left mouse button. But now when
I double click with left button it opens the Search box.
If I want to open a folder I must right click on it and
scroll down to Open (third on the list when I right
click) then left click on open.
How do I get Open to be first on the list so that all I
have to do to open a folder is double click on the left
mouse button. This is how I used to open folders.
Help!
