Opening folders in the same window

I have set windows XP to open folders in the same window.
It just does not happen. Opening a folder creates a new window for it, every
time.
Since windows XP tends to make long paths I have to close a lot of
intermediate windows. :(
e.g. (documents and settings\ myname\ my documents\ my images\ etc)

After you "set" folder options to open in same window,
Click to expand...
did you click OK or Apply? If you clicked OK, it will
NOT happen, for you have to click Apply first, to set and
save it, then click OK.
