Opening folders ?? (I'm not a dunce)

On my second PC, I have a problem. When I open any folder in my pc by double
clicking, the pc will try to open an excel file but with a blank document.
then bring up a search pane. When I apply the search all files are listed.
When I right click the folder, it is listed as search/open/explore, instead
of open/search/explore. Why does this happen? There are no viruses or spyware
are on the pc.

Try this first:
Click Start, Run and copy & paste rthis command into the Run box:

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll
