opening files

I have a problem. Immediately after I posted a project to my online school course (which was a word document), something happened to my computer. I don't know what or how to fix it. I am unable to open any word documents. I try to open something, anything, and a box pops up that say "the file soandso is not available". So I click OK, which is the only choice it gives me. I click exit and another box pops up that says "the file normal already exists. Do you want to replace the existing file?" I click no. Then a "save as" box opens with templates selected. Normal and Normal1 are in the templates folder and normal is highlighted at the bottom asking me if I want to save it. I click cancel. I then have to click exit, again. Then a box pops up that says "changes have been made that affects the global template normal. Do you want to save those changes?" I click no. Then it finally goes away. I also can not open any word documents that are sent to me via email. What's going on? Any idea why it is doing that? Or how to fix it? Please help!

Hi, Dancing Eagle. If you are running Norton/Symantec Antivirus, try disabling the Office Plugin that comes with it. The option is usually in something like Start | All Programs | Norton | Options | Miscellaneous. Don't uninstall the antivirus software, just disable the Office Plugin. If you need specific instructions, see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=329820. Write back if you run into problems.
 
You have received the "Normal" virus. There should be
some postings on how to get rid of "normal" virus. Ask
question in main question section on MS help page.
